Jaguar aimed for a thoroughbred sports car with the 2007 XK and succeeded. The new chassis has many aluminum components, helping the convertible to lose the flexibility of the XK8 it replaces. Revised suspension improves handling and the transmission, with three settings, can be luxury smooth or razor sharp depending on the driver’s mood.The 4.2L V8 that powered the XK8 for ten years returns in both naturally aspirated and supercharged varieties, but with more power. The base version gains 6 horsepower over 2006 and the supercharged engine now produces 30 additional horsepower to make 420 @ 6000 rpm and 14 additional lb-feet of torque. Both engines are available in the coupe and convertible.Luxury is Jaguar’s signature, and lots of leather, aluminum, and two choices of interior wood trim make for a classy interior. Opt for the Aluminum Luxury package and the dashboard gets wrapped in leather, and the seats receive 16-way power adjusters. A premium sound package adds a 525-watt amplifier and Dolby surround sound with Sirius satellite radio for $2,100. Adaptive cruise control is available for $2,200.The convertible soft top operates via a single button and neatly stows under an aluminum tonneau cover. It also features a heated glass rear window. When the top is down the occupants are protected in the event of a rollover by roll bars that pop up behind the seats.Traction control and dynamic stability control are standard on both models.
